Brighten up any space in your home with our air plant collection. Air plants are very hardy, easy to care for, and versatile enough to be displayed and enjoyed in a wide range of creative ideas, like putting them onto wreaths, in hanging glass containers, or even glued onto decorative stones. An excellent candidate as well for growing indoors or in drier climates such as California.
How to care for Air Plants
Once you receive your Tillandsias they will benefit from a 2-3 hour soaking in water as their journey can be stressful. Lower leaves that have naturally died can be easily removed by pulling them down towards the base of the plant.
Air plants should be kept where they'll receive bright, indirect sunlight or under fluorescent home/office lighting. Periods of direct sunlight are just fine, but more than a few hours of hot sun will deplete the plants of their moisture. If your plant will be in a spot with some pretty direct light, try misting them every couple of days to keep them hydrated.
Since air plants are very unique in that they do not require soil to grow and thrive, they can be mounted to almost any different surface for display.
Thoroughly wet your Tillandsia 2-3 times per week; more often in a hot, dry environment; less often in a cool, humid one. Plants should be given enough light and air circulation to dry in no longer than 4 hours after watering. Spray misting is insufficient as the sole means of watering but may be beneficial between regular waterings in dry climates to increase the humidity.
Air plants will do best in generally warm conditions (a good range is 50-90 degrees Fahrenheit). In frost-free or nearly frost-free climates they can live outside for the entire year. Like most house plants, they can be taken outside on a porch or balcony for the warm season, just don't expose them to temperature or sun extremes.
Tillandsias can survive without fertilizer, though a plant benefiting from a fertilizer regimen will grow, bloom, and produce offsets (pups) more vigorously. A Bromeliad or Tillandsia fertilizer should be used 2 times per month at ¼ strength.
